Our Regional Education and Training Boards (ETBs) are at the heart of education and skills in the Midlands. Covering a broad spectrum of learning, with everything from Schools, to Further Education, as well as Apprenticeships, Traineeships, Hospitality Training, Post Leaving Certificate (PLC), Specific Skills Training, Local Training Initiatives, Vocational Training, Youth Provision, Back to Education, Community Education, Literacy Services and Evening Courses.
Your Local ETB should be your first stop when it comes to training, reskilling or education in the Midlands.
Across Midlands, almost 20,000 people are undertaking Further Education and Training Courses with their ETB.
Apprenticeships
Apprenticeship is the recognised means by which people are trained to become craftspeople or professionals in Ireland. It is a demand-driven, workplace and classroom, educational and training programme for employed people aimed at developing the skills of the apprentice to meet the needs of industry and the labour market.
Enterprise Support
A company that is willing to train and develop their workforce will have a significant advantage over other companies in this increasingly competitive business world. Employee turnover represents a significant cost for business, in terms of costs, time and staff morale. Meanwhile, upskilling or reskilling is a much smaller investment. Giving your staff opportunities to reskill helps to create a well-rounded, highly-trained workforce that are more efficient, motivated and loyal
Midlands Skills Centre
Opened in 2019, the Midlands Skills Centre in Tullamore is amongst the country’s newest and best equipped facilities catering to the specialist training and upskilling of those who wish to seek employment in the rapidly growing bio-pharma and medical-tech sectors. The centre delivers holistic training solutions in a realistic GMP simulated manufacturing environment, enhancing the learning experience through adjacent IT and meeting facilities. Facilities include a state-of-the-art cleanroom, laboratories and classrooms
National Construction Training Centre
The National Construction Training Centre at Mount Lucas focusses primarily on Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS), providing for the training, assessment, certification and registration of non-craft operatives within the construction sector. The Centre is a designated National Centre for NZEB and low carbon building.
Further Education and Training (FET) Centres
The FET Service strives continually to both develop and provide a wide range of quality learning opportunities for adults throughout the Midlands. The aim of the service is to encourage, enable and support adults who wish to return to education to avail of the educational opportunities that best suit their needs. Programmes are provided at centres throughout the county and have been developed in co-operation with a wide range of partners.
