Midlands: 3 things to do this Christmas

For many, the best part of Christmas is the buildup to the big day. In the Midlands region, there’s lots going on to get the whole family in the festive spirit, including local markets, ice skating, and visits to Santa.

Here are some family-friendly Christmas events in the midlands this year;

1. Mullingar Winterfest Experience

If it’s an ice skating experience you’re after, Mullingar Skates ice skating rink is open until January 5th. WinterFest Santa’s Village is also open over two weekends—December 7th and 8th and December 14th and 15th at the Peace Park beside the library in Mullingar. Santa’s Village will be the starting point for the Elf Trail. After your visit to Santa, there is a guided map to find the elves hiding throughout the main streets of Mullingar. Ice skating and Santa visit tickets here

2. The Happy Human Christmas Special, Laois.

‘The Happy Human Christmas Special’ at Wolfhill, Laois, promises to be more than just a visit to see Santa. Run by actor Charlie Hughes, there is a whole village of lights and magic. At the Elves workshop, if you say the magic word, the elves will spring to life! Along with Junior Santa and Mrs. Clause, Grumpy Grandpa Santa will be there; you should try & put him in a good mood, as he might read you a Christmas story!

There is a ‘Wishing Hut’. Each child will have the opportunity to write a wish for someone they love; no wish is too big or too small! Next, we meet the man himself—Santa! Each child will receive a small gift from Santa, and finally they can enjoy the ‘goodies hut’ for hot chocolate and treats!

There is a very special Sensory Friendly Session on Sunday, 15th, December, from 4-6pm. Contact Charlie directly on 0858823600 or book here

3. Land of Light

The enchanting Land of Lights at the beautiful Belvedere House, where visitors can take in the stunning light displays that create a magical ambiance. Set in the beautiful grounds of Belvedere House, Gardens & Park in County Westmeath, the experience delivers thrills and excitement at every turn.

This fantastic outdoor event includes:

  • Ireland’s longest Forest Trail
  • Tunnel of Lights
  • The Dragons Layer
  • Giant LED Dinosaurs
  • Giant LED Rubix Cubes
  • Giant LED Christmas Bus
  • Ice age Forest experience

Furthermore, there are countless opportunities to visit Santa Claus himself, allowing children to share their Christmas wishes and create unforgettable memories. The trees, the buildings and the night sky are all lit up in a magical display that runs until December 21st. Book here
