Midland Steel open €16m Portlaoise facility and announce North American market partner

Laois-based Midland Steel have announced a strategic partnership with Nucor Corporation to roll out their #FasterFix technology by exclusive agreement in the USA and Canada. Midland Steel is Ireland’s leading steel reinforcement company, while partner, Nucor Corporation, is the largest steel producer and recycler in the USA, marking a significant milestone in steel construction innovation and sustainability.

Nucor Rebar Fabrication will hold exclusive rights to Midland Steel’s #FasterFix modular rebar technology solution across the U.S. to 2029. #FasterFix is a BIM-designed, pre-engineered system that enhances efficiency, reduces waste, and supports sustainability within the construction industry. It can reduce build time on site by 75pc, decrease labour on site by up to 80%, significantly impacting construction projects across North America and Canada.

Modular Fabricated Rebar a game changer in Construction Industry

The partnership announcement was made at the opening event of the new Enterprise Ireland USA offices in Atlanta, Georgia at an event attended by Minister for Social Protection, Rural Affairs and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary T.D., and US and Irish industry leaders, including Kevin Sherry, CEO, Enterprise Ireland, Rory Power, Head of US East Coast, Enterprise Ireland, Anderson Graves, Senior Vice President, Enterprise Ireland, and Frank Groome, Consul General of Ireland in Atlanta.

Tony Woods of Midland Steel Reinforcement Supplies was also honoured to celebrate the announcement at a meeting in WashingtonDC attended by Michael Carey, Chairman, Enterprise Ireland, An Taoiseach Micheál Martin T.D. , Chad Beard President, Nucor Rebar Fabrication , Eugene McManus, Innovation Director, Nucor Rebar Fabrication  and Rory Power, Head of US East Coast, Enterprise Ireland.

New €16m Portlaoise Automated Steel Fabrication Facility

The announcement of the Midland Steel – Nucor Corporation partnership comes on foot of the opening of a €16m Automated Steel fabrication facility by Midland Steel in Portlaoise, Co. Laois, the first of its kind in Ireland, providing off-site manufacturing of a finished product ready for concrete placement.

Midland Steel proudly unveiled their Midland Steel Reinforcement Supplies fully automated, SMART steel fabrication facility in Portlaoise, supported by Kevin Sherry, Interim CEO of Enterprise Ireland.

Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, Peter Burke T.D. attend the official opening of the facility to celebrate the €16m investment, which is expected to create 62 new jobs over three years. The state-of-the-art facility specialises in Midland Steel’s patented #FasterFix technology, which is already revolutionising the construction industry with up to 75% faster build times and 80% reduced labour needs on site with 0% waste.

Minister Peter Burke T.D. remarked, “Midland Steel’s innovative FasterFix technology is already transforming the construction industry at home and abroad, and it is fantastic to see an Irish company making such impressive inroads across Europe and beyond. The significant investment by Midland Steel in Laois not only reinforces Ireland’s leadership in Modern Methods of Construction but also creates highly-skilled jobs in engineering, robotics, and BIM modelling, securing the future of our construction industry”.
