With a high ratio of jobs to resident workers, the Midlands has a positive net inflow of workers to urban centres which can further grow given the neighbouring access to talent and labour force.

The Midlands benefits from important well-established supports such as the four Local Enterprise Offices in the region, the New Frontiers Programme in TUS Technological University of the Shannon, and the Bord na Mona Accelerate Green programme for start-ups and SMEs. Enterprise Ireland continues to support, through collaboration and funding, the region’s Centres of Excellence, Irish Manufacturing Research, Command and Applied Polymer Technologies. Enterprise Centres are another critical enterprise development support to which Enterprise Ireland has committed significant funding over several years.

The Home of Big Events

We’re at the heart of the festival and events industry in Ireland, regularly hosting events with 100,000’s of attendees. Great transport links, central location, stunning venues, and a friendly welcome make the Midlands the smart choice for Conferences and Events in Ireland.

Key events in the region include the National Ploughing Championships which take place each September in Ratheniska, attracting up to 300,000 visitors for one of the largest outdoor events of its type in Europe. Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann takes place each August, with Mullingar as its current home, attracting crowds of up to 500,000. Electric Picnic has grown to become Ireland’s largest music festival with crowds of 70,000 coming to Stradbally in September each year. Combined, they contribute to an events calendar which sees millions of local, national and international visitors come to region each year.

Surrounding these National Events is a supporting infrastructure of transport links, hotels, restaurants, remote working hubs and service businesses, as well as a supportive network of public body partners, making the Midlands the ideal home for events of all sizes.
