Midlands businesses backed by Enterprise Ireland increased employment numbers by 4% in 2022, according to new figures released by the Agency today. The total number employed by businesses working with Enterprise Ireland in the region now stands at close to 12,000.
In 2021, the Midlands region was the fastest-growing region in the country for the government agency responsible for developing Irish business globally, and so to see an additional 4% increase in employment for 2022 shows the potential to go from strength to strength in the Midlands region. Positive also is the news that 68% of jobs supported by Enterprise Ireland have been generated in the regions.
Performance by sector showed significant trends, with the fastest-growing sectors being in the areas of Sustainability and Digital Technology. These indicators link in strongly with the objectives of the Midlands Regional Enterprise Plan, positioning the Midlands to benefit from continued growth in these sectors in the coming years. The fastest growing sectors for 2022 were as follows:
- Climate, Sustainability and Agritech (+13%)
- Digital Technology (+9%),
- High Tech Construction and Housing (+6%)
- Fintech, Financial and Business Services (+6%)
- The Life Sciences and Engineering sectors both saw 5% employment growth
