Historically, the Malt House along with the maltings across the road was first a cotton mill which then
became a flour mill and then a malt house. It was owned by Minch Norton & Co in the 20th Century. The complex is a striking streetscape in Stradbally and after it’s conversion 15 years ago it now houses appartments and a performance and arts space. In the performance space, many exhibitions and workshops take place there, along with music. Music Generation Laois have utilised the performance space for may of their concerts, Jack L and many local bands have also performed there.

In partnership with SVT Activity and Wellness Hub and Laois County Council, the Malt House venue was secured and will serve as a pictureesque base for the OT team with it’s high ceilings and gorgeous surrounds. The OT Fitness expert, Karl Henry will host the weekly Ad Break Challenges in Laois with the first one taking place on the 29th December, with Stradbally native, Ann Simpson, who owns Simpson’s Gala shop in Stradbally.

Two of the show’s experts are based in Laois, Dr Eddie Murphy and Dr Sumi Dunne are both from Portarlington. OT expert and General Practitioner, Dr Sumi says it is a special honour to be in Laois, as it is her home county: “I am delighted to be involved with series 16 of Operation Transformation. It will be a fantastic eight weeks. We have super leaders whom we have the privilege of getting to know and accompanying them on their journey to wellness and health.” The show, in it’s 16th Series is also set to welcome new dietician Sophie Pratt, who will join Dr Sumi Dunne, Dr Eddie Murphy and Karl Henry on the OT panel of experts for 2023.

So set your alarm, for the January 6th Ad break Challenge which will go to Vicarstown, at Annanough GAA grounds. You might even get your face on camera for that one! Operation Transformation will air every Wednesday from January 4th for eight weeks at 21:35 on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player.
